In recent years, numerous recipes and remedies have emerged that promise to be curative. Many of these remedies help, but only momentarily, and in most cases, they make us heavily dependent on them. Personally, I struggled for most of my life trying to alleviate my dermatitis symptoms. It was embarrassing having to explain why I couldn't shake hands because my hands had sores and cuts. They would form on their own; I didn't understand why. I remember going to dermatologists' offices with my mother and always hearing that dermatitis was more common among brown and colored people. It was frustrating because I would never get an answer to what I could do to help my symptoms. I can say that I've tried everything that promised to help my hands and with time I understood that not only the products you use but the kind of lifestyle you have will determine how severe your eczema/dermatitis is.
What exactly is Eczema/ Dermatitis?
Eczema/Dermatitis is a chronic skin disorder that cause itching, redness, dry/scaly patches, and cracky or weeping skin; often triggered by allergens, stress or even the climate. Eczema isn’t recognized as a disease and for many years medical communities have not defined what they consider eczema to be. Which can leave people that constantly struggle with symptoms confused as well as upset. Often times, Eczema is often underestimated as just dry skin, but it is a serious problem that a lot of people constantly go through in their daily lives. The origin of this disease/condition is unknown and the causes of eczema vary from person to person. Usually it has to do with the individual not producing enough filaggrin leading to a weakened skin barrier. Without enough filaggrin the skin doesn’t retain moisture and increases allergen penetration onto the skin.
